Tell your bank to ditch fossil fuels!

To the CEO's of Australia’s big banks,

You say you're committed to strong action on climate change. It’s time to prove it. Keeping global warming to below two degrees requires urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Your actions and decisions are key to this outcome.

We demand that, as a minimum, you:

● Make no further investments that expand the size of the fossil fuel industry, and

● Reduce your exposure to the thermal coal sector to zero by 2020, and all fossil fuels by 2030.

Which big bank are you with?

Although the Great Barrier Reef has just sweated through its worst ever bleaching event, all hope is not lost. But we really need the big banks to keep warming at a safe level by ditching funding for fossil fuel projects like Adani’s Carmichael coal mine.

Adani are trying to push ahead to secure financing for a coal project near the Reef, but we will not let them pass us.

Coal company Glencore are selling back their share of the Abbot Point port and Adani have announced they’re planning a smaller (still biggest in the country), slow ramp up of their mine to minimise costs and get things happening.

As Adani ramp up, so do we, every avenue they try, we block.

Over the next few months we’re going to be ramping up the pressure on the banks in the lead up to their big annual shareholder meetings. Together we’ll hold them accountable to keeping the Reef and our future safe and making sure they don’t budge on funding for Adani.

The next 3 years are critical for action on climate change, our politicians must act to upgrade Australia to 100% renewable energy and leave coal and gas in the past.
